Tobbedansen Harlingen owes its name to the place where the event was first held, namely in Harlingen. The nickname of Harlingers is therefore “Toba dancers”. This arose because people used to make a woolen clothing fabric in Harlingen, known as the Harlinger fur. To clean the wool, it was placed in large tubs of water, in which it was cleaned, casually, barefoot. Hence the name “Toban dancers”.
